Cosmetic Dentistry has long been a way for people to change the appearance of their teeth and mouth. Porcelain dentures came on the scene at this time, and dentists began taking molds of patients mouths in order to assure a good fit. In the early 1900′s dentists switched to using plastics and acrylics for dentures. Acrylics are still the preferred material today.

Veneers are another cosmetic procedure that have grown in popularity of the past several years. Veneers are extremely thin pieces of material colored to look like teeth that are attached to the patients existing teeth. This is a pricier resolution but restore damaged teeth to almost looking like new. The procedure is said to be almost painless and is a solution for chipped teeth, broken teeth, brown teeth and more.

They serve to cover stains, smaller teeth or cracks. Veneers can be made from resin composites or porcelain. They are bonded using a special type of cement after the existing tooth is cleaned, polished, and etched to ensure a good tight bond. Veneers are relatively new on the cosmetic dental scene. Speak with you cosmetic dentist to determine if veneers would be a great move. Veneers are not for patients who are seeking short-term results or for those who have a fixed budget.
