Spacing of Teeth | Dental Care

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Spacing is really a term used to describe an excessive amount of space in the jaws creating gaps between teeth.

What are the Causes of Spacing? Spacing can occur for many reasons. Here are some of the most common:

1. Mismatch between the size of the teeth and jaws. – Many people have teeth that are simply too small for the available space and can result in gaps between both the front and back teeth.

2. Tooth loss – When you loose a tooth, the teeth on either side and above the missing tooth will move into the empty space. This can result in gaps developing where previously there were none. This can also result in a shift in your bite and damage to the joints of the mouth.

The Use of Dental Implants in Today's Dentistry | Dental Care

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Dental implants have been used since ancient times. Archaeologists have found shells implanted in jawbones found in prehistoric graveyards. However, modern technology dates from the early 1950s, when Dr. Leonard Linkow began to use fixed, root-like stabilizers for tooth replacements.

Like an original root, an implant is fixed solidly to the jaw bone. In the early days of this technology, a thin blade was inserted in the bone or a root-like device was screwed to surrounding bone tissue. Today the artificial roots are fused to bone by ossification, making the device secure in the jaw socket. Similar ossification occurs when hip or knee replacement surgery is done.

An implant is used as a base for a crown, which will be placed once fusion has solidly set the implant. It can also be a stabilizer for dentures or bridges which replace teeth lost to decay or periodontal disease. Many denture-stabilizing devices are less than 3mm in diameter and are called mini-implants. Orthodontists also use these to regulate the movement of a tooth or teeth which are moved slightly in order to prevent crowding or to correct the bite of the patient.

Even though they are expensive, they are very popular. You must be careful about opting, for what on the surface, appear to be reasonably priced implants because they may endanger your health.

When you are looking into having this procedure done, talk to qualified medical practitioners and people who’ve already undergone surgery. Do not go by what you read in commercial, this could be a good starting point, but the professionals know their business better. A bad decision at this point can damage you physically and financially.

Tongue Scraper Will Remove Bad Breath Bacteria

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

In recent years, the use of the tongue scraper has increased in popularity, and with good reason. They’re very effective. Many people mistake the root of bad breath and assume it’s caused by eating the wrong foods, or that it lives in the teeth and gums. While this is true, the main source of bad breath comes from the back part of the tongue.

The root of all bad breath comes from your tongue. The back of your tongue to be exact. Living deep within little grooves present inside your tongue are bacteria.
