The Lies You Need to Know About Teeth Whitening

Little White Lie #1

The Lie: Brushing your teeth with whitening toothpaste is the best way to whiten your teeth.

The Truth: Obviously, you should brush your teeth. You can even use whitening toothpaste if you like; however, you’ll be disappointed if you expect these products to be able to whiten your teeth on their own. While brushing is essential to maintaining dental health and hygiene, it won’t whiten your teeth even if you do use one of the many whitening toothpastes on the market for one very simple reason. The whitening agents used in these whitening toothpastes simply aren’t in contact with your teeth long enough to really produce any kind of noticeable results.

The saliva washes any of the whitening agents away quickly, keeping them from staying in contact for a duration long enough to produce an effect. Additionally, whitening toothpastes are formulated with whitening agents in concentrations far too low to have much of an impact even supposing that these ingredients weren’t washed away quickly by your saliva. Whitening toothpaste is a great idea but until some radically different type of toothpaste is developed, you won’t see any results from these toothpastes that any other type of toothpaste can’t produce.

Costa Rica Medical Tourism

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Everyone knows the difficulty one has to undertake when having their teeth done here in the United States. Medical bills soar sky high, insurance companies fail to cover your cost with their overpriced premiums, and you are at a risk of getting a second surgery done right after if the doctor doesn’t do it right. This situation often leaves people disregarding their medical well-being right down in the bottom of the priority pile. Reality is, surgeries and even check ups are starting to become inaccessible to the common person.

Thanks to the ingenuity of people who were poking around to find a far more affordable option than the expensive operations back home, we have discovered the potential of medical tourism as a great money saver without compromising the quality of surgery you would receive. But what is medical tourism, you might ask? Derive the words ‘medical’ and ‘tourism’ and you could say it’s like taking a trip for medical reasons. But with the word ‘tourism’ in it, it also includes discovery and relaxation. Two of which would be beneficial for your health.

Gum Disease Becomes a Much Bigger Problem

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Many dental complications can be prevented by daily oral hygiene. Brushing and flossing your teeth removes plaque buildup and lessens the possibility of developing dental complications such as gum disease, also known as periodontal disease. Approximately 75% of the US population suffers from some form of gum disease, and most of those people dont even realize it. Gum disease causes complications in the present, but also has an effect on a persons overall health in the future.

The sticky and white substance that forms daily on teeth and gums is called plaque. If not removed, plaque hardens and turns into tartar, this cannot be removed by brushing or flossing of teeth and causes more plaque buildup. Often going unnoticed, the first stage of gum disease is called gingivitis. Untreated gingivitis may result in the irreversible second stage of gum disease, periodontitis.

Safe Teeth Whitening

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Any teeth whitening procedures are safe as long as it is done correctly. Anything that involves stripping the enamel from your teeth is not safe as this is not how safe teeth whitening is practiced. If you choose to strip your teeth of enamel you will probably notice that they will turn a yellow color instead of looking whiter.

The other thing that you should avoid is using a brush that has very stiff bristles. Hard bristles can actually cause damage to your gums, particularly if you use a strong brushing action. You will find that there are hundreds of teeth whitening products around, and they can all be applied with a soft toothbrush which will not only produce great results, but will do it safely without damaging your gums in any way.
